What is the Baja 500?
Its the baby sister of the Baja 1000. The most intense and grueling offroad race in North America. The 500 has many of the same characteristics of the 1000, just half the distance. Both are races that require you to be in top shape and willing to give it your all.
What is the Baja 500 to me?
Racing in the Baja 500 has been a childhood goal of mine. Since I was 16 I’ve wanted to do this race. Although back then I’d thought I’d do it in a baja bug like a majority of the people. I had no idea I’d do it on a motorcycle. Someone in Dust to Glory said “…Baja [Mexico] is like that girlfriend you can’t live with or without. I hate you, I love you, I hate you, I love you…”

Much of riding down there, and racing down there is like that. There are areas where you think “What the hell am I doing here?” then you come around a mountain, across a stream, and into a view that is just completely awing.


With everything, it was an experience worth having. I spent a great weekend with some good friends. I met a goal I’ve had for a very long time. And! We placed 3rd in our class!
