Hey, I heard about this today (talk about local news being at least 4-6 months off from what's really happening) and thought about you and your blog. This guy was laid off at yahoo and, thanks to twittering his day of impending layoff, he got an unexpected audience with an unexpected number of employment inquiries. This really goes to show you that it's mostly a matter of who you know (and not just due to industry). I think the more people use word of mouth to their friends/contacts publicising their availablilty for work & new opportunities, those friends/contacts give new avenues to obtain work-- and many not-before-considered ones as well.

I hope your blog and facebook, linkedIn, etc... will help to get the hopes of a self-employment dream into reality!!!

Good luck J!! :D
