An Atheletic Event I’d Enjoy

I got this link from a friend yesterday. And, what a fun event! I might even have to see if I can franchise it and put one on in San Diego. You can read more here!

Announcing the Inaugural Fat Cyclist Triathalon
I am pleased to announce that I will be putting on my very first event this Summer: The Fat Cyclist Triathalon (please note this is a triathalon, not a triathlon). I am pretty darned certain you’re going to want to mark this on your calendar

Here’s how it’s going to play out.

  1. Mountain Bike Leg: We’ll begin from my house in Alpine, UT, where we’ll ride mountain bikes up Hog’s Hollow, then down to Sliding Rock — a natural waterslide in the Hog’s Hollow area. The winner of this first leg of the race will be the person who goes down the Sliding Rock with the most panache, as judged by a distinguished panel of three.
  2. Road Bike Leg: After Sliding Rock, we’ll ride back to my house, where we’ll quickly transition over to road bikes. Everyone will be required to remark on how strange road bikes feel after being on a mountain bike. We will then ride to Tibble Fork Reservoir and back. The winner of this leg of the event will be the person who can, on the spot, come up with the most clever limerick about a topic which will be provided at the beginning of this leg of the race.
  3. Beer-Boiled-and-Grilled-Brats at Fatty’s: Back at my house, the third leg of the race will consist of us all eating exquisitely delicious brats. I will ask Kenny to make bread for the brats, which will make them even more wonderful, if that’s even possible. I will also make Seven-Layer Dip for the occasion. My Seven-Layer Dip is really, really good. On New Year’s Eve last year, Brad declared his intention to eat nothing but this dip. And Brad knows food. Anyway, the winner of this leg of the event will be determined by whoever seems to enjoy the brats most (which is not the same thing as whoever eats the most brats).

Sounds like a great time!

Update: Just after writing this I read the rest of his blog.  Wow.  My heart goes out to him.  When I plan this event I think its going to be a fund raiser to raise money for the Lance Armstrong Foundation to help people like Elden and his family.

The New Gig

Uncategorized No Comments »

Monday was the first day of the ‘New Gig’. Pretty good day actually. The office is about 1.5 miles from my house. The people there rock. And, the project will be challenging! After Nicole (The Boss) dropped off some light reading material (Two 3″ binders stuffed to the point of bursting) I was given a really awesome bamboo plant for Prosperity and Luck. (Prosperity and Luck never hurt anyone!)  Jessica let me know if I fail in my care taking duties she had me covered.  I’ll have to read up on how to take care of a bamboo plant.  This week is going to be mostly getting the lay of the land and setting up some structure. I’m really looking forward to getting this project rolling.

Unemployed – Day 16

Marathon interviews today.  Tomorrow I think I’ll have my employment situation straightened out!  Other than the series of interviews I went through today it wasn’t much of an adventure.  I’m not one to disclose how the interviewing sessions go so there won’t be much to read today

I realized this morning I forgot to get my free Ben & Jerry’s and then today I forgot to get my $.31 ice cream at 31 Flavors!!!  Ah well, I probably don’t need the ice cream anyway.

And now for something completely different…

Gregg sent this to me. I think its hilarious!  Its another translation of the WW2 movie with Hitler, and how his men bought him the WRONG BIKE!

Awesome Riding Shorts by Sugoi

Uncategorized No Comments »

Hey gang.  I have to tell you about these great shorts I bought from the local shop.  If you’re going to ride for a decent distance, I can’t recommend these enough.  They are apparently hard to find but Bicycle Warehouse in San Diego carries them and has them in stock most of the time.  Additionally you can order them online at www.sugoi.com via their online store (They list REI as a carrier, but they have a limited inventory).

The shorts I bought are the Sugoi RS Short.  They are pricey, but after spending all day wearing them and having no discomfort.  They are worth every penny.  I’m planning to buy their Gustov Short this summer and few other items after seeing their quality first hand.  If you want to know more, email me and I’ll spout on for hours. haha!

This really made me laugh. Great song by a once great band. Whoever did this mash up had a good time.

Hope everyone is having a good one! I AM!

I need a new theme.

Anyone want to help out? Yeah, like I thought.   Being red/green colorblind I can design some hideously ugly sites.   I guess I’ll have to sucker some artistically talented person into helping me update the theme design.

Sold the Z tonight. I waffled back and forth on keeping or selling her. Obviously, selling her was the final decision. I’m not sure if I’ll miss the car or not. I don’t think it was worth the expense, but I did enjoy driving her.

On a related note, I read this quote today on the advrider board.   I thought it was funny and very appropriate as it pertains to me.

” To be truly challenging, a voyage, like a life, must rest on a firm foundation of financial unrest. Otherwise you are doomed to a routine traverse, the kind know to yachtsmen, who play with their boats at sea-”cruising “it is called. Voyaging belongs to seamen, and to the wanderers of the world who cannot or will not fit in. If you are contemplating a voyage and you have the means, abandon the venture until, your fortunes change. Only then will you know what the sea is all about.
Little has been said or written about the ways a man may blast himself free. Why? I don’t know, unless the answer lies in our diseased values. A man seldom hesitates to describe his work; he gladly divulges the privacies of alleged sexual conquests. But ask him how much he has in the bank he recoils into a shocked and stubborn silence.
“I’ve always wanted to sail to the South Seas, but I can’t afford it.” What these men can’t afford is NOT to go. They are enmeshed in the cancerous discipline of “security.” And in the worship of security we fling our lives beneath the wheels of routine- and before we know it our lives are gone.
What does a man need-really need? A few pounds of food each day, heat and shelter, six feet to lie down in-and some form of working activity that will yield a sense of accomplishment. That’s all- in the material sense. And we know it. But we are brainwashed by our economic system until we end up in a tomb beneath a pyramid of time payments, mortages preposterous gadgetry, playthings that divert our attention from the sheer idiocy of the charade.
The years thunder by. The dreams of youth grow dim where they lie caked in dust on the shelves of patience. Before we know it , the tomb is sealed.
Where then , lies the answer? In choice. Which shall it be; bankruptcy of purse or bankruptcy of life? What follows is not a blueprint for the man entombed; not many people find themselves in a situation paying a hundred and fifty thousand dollars a year( 1963) ( as if any man is worth that much). But the struggle is relative: it’s a lot harder to walk away from an income like that than from a fraction thereof.”

- Sterling Hayden from his book Wanderer

Hope all is well where you are!
